Beloved Charity

Our History & Mission

Our Mission is simple yet powerful; to give heartfelt gestures and unforgettable experiences to individuals and families of Barbados who are affected by cancer.

At BeLoved, we understand that cancer isn’t just a medical battle, it’s a whirlwind that impacts every facet of life. The charity was founded by Melanie Marbare, who herself was confronted by cancer in 2005 and underwent numerous surgeries, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and several targeted inhibitor therapies. The charity was born out of a wellspring of empathy and understanding of Melanie’s personal journey, which taught her that amidst the trials of diagnosis and treatment and recovery, small moments of joy with the people you love can make an immeasurable difference.

Cancer doesn’t discriminate. It affects not only your health but also your finances and aspirations, and cherished plans. Melanie’s experiences illuminated the profound impact, that a well-deserved meal, a day of shared laughter with loved ones could have. These moments of respite from the hospital’s sterile environment, infused a renewed sense of purpose and wellbeing.

BeLoved is a labour of love, nurtured by a close-knit family and circle of friends who share Melanie’s passion for making a difference. Our journey is sustained by the incredible generosity of the Barbadian business sector, whose kind hearts and unwavering support makes our work possible.

Within the vibrant pages of this website, there is a treasure trove of gifts and experiences. From delectable restaurant meals to relaxing hotel stays. From beauty treatments that pamper the soul, to tickets that unlock exciting events. Our offerings are designed to give some respite and relief to the cancer poverty that can result after spending so much money on medical care.

Why the name BeLoved?

This name encapsulates the essence of our mission. It stems from Melanie’s unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and the belief that despites the many roles we play in life, daughter, mother, wife, friend we are ultimately and eternally the beloved of God.

We’ve selected the honeybee as the symbol for our charity because, much like these industrious insects, our dedication is to cultivate sweet moments in the lives of families affected by cancer.

Just as bees toil tirelessly, Melanie, alongside her family and lifelong friend Lynn-Marie, stands united and loyal, ensuring that the hive of our beloved island, Barbados, flourishes with kindness and generosity.
